E-VIGNETTE Information and purchase
The e-vignette user charge system applies to motorcycles, automobiles and their trailers, as well as cargo vehicles with a maximum permissible gross weight of 3.5 tons, campers and buses, and their towed vehicles.
These vehicles are authorised to use Hungarian tolled expressways exclusively with pre-purchased road use permits (purchased before entering the toll road), i.e. e-vignettes. The toll charges depend on the category of the motor vehicle and the validity periods. The category of the vehicles depends on the number of passengers and the weight of the motor vehicle. The toll category should be established on the basis of the official entry that appears in the vehicle registration certificate.
Significant changes from previous years have been introduced in the toll decree of 2015 with respect to the toll-free sections, vehicle categories and type of e-vignette; therefore we request that you study the information and maps in detail or call our Call Center (in English every day between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM) at +36 (36) 587-500.
TRANSITIONAL PROVISIONS (Grace period)
The amendment of Toll Payment Decree determined a real grace period. Pursuant to the transitional provision, car drivers who used any road subject to toll payment between January 1 2015 and January 31 2015 on an unauthorized way, shall be exempted not only from the payment of excess charge but they need not to pay the service fee of HUF 1,470 applied in other cases either if they purchase an annual regional or annual (national) road use permit relevant to the location of the unauthorized road use before February 28. If such a driver receives a notice for payment of excess charge, he/she can arrange the case by mail or personally at one of the customer service offices of the National Toll Payment Services Plc (in 17 offices nationwide).
Respecting regulations are as follows:
The following road sections can be used toll free:

New products and vehicle categories will be introduced
In addition to the vignettes of the usual validity periods (weekly/10-day, monthly, annual), a new, territory-based annual e-vignette type will become available for vehicles in Categories D1M, D1, D2, U and B2. The toll road networks of one or more counties can be used with the regional vignette. The validity period of this e-vignette type will be the same as the validity period of the annual authorisation.
Annual regional e-vignettes for the following counties can be purchased (which have toll road networks):
Bács-Kiskun County, Baranya County, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County, Csongrád County, Fejér County, Győr-Moson-Sopron County, Hajdú-Bihar County, Heves County, Komárom-Esztergom County, Pest County, Somogy County, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County, Tolna County, Veszprém County, Zala County.
The scope of validity of the regional vignette extends outside the relevant county, up to the first junction past the county border.

New vehicle categories are as follows:
Vehicle category D2: automobiles for more than 7 persons including the driver, and cargo vehicles and campers of a maximum permissible gross weight of 3.5 tons.
Vehicle category U: trailers of vehicles in categories D2 and B2.
E-vignettes in D1 and B2 categories will continue to be purchased by the usual methods: at the customer service offices and the points of sale of the National Toll Payment Services PLC (NÚSZ Zrt.), as well as at ouronline customer service, our contracted retailers, the fuel stations, and via text messages, online, phone calls and mobile purchase methods.
E-vignettes in the new categories (D2, U and regional annual vignettes) can be purchased our customer service offices, our online customer service and at the following retailers, fuel stations.
After the transaction has been made, customers will receive a control slip or a confirmation message that should be kept for 2 years from the last day of the validity period, as the penalty payment obligation expires 2 years after issue. The period in which the National Toll Payment Services Private Company Limited By Shares (NÚSZ Zrt.) may send penalty notifications by post will remain in 60 days.
The methods of checking road use authorisation continue to be based on vehicle registration numbers. The Company calls attention to the relevant legal regulation, according to which all motorway sections (as well as highways) subject to tolls can be used only with a valid and (in terms of items such as registration number and validity period) properly validated e-vignette for the proper vehicle category, purchased prior to entering the motorway (or any other toll road). It is also important to remember that the signature of motorists purchasing vignettes in person – and the reply message of those buying vignettes via text messages – confirms the validity of the indicated data (registration number, toll category, start and end date of validity), therefore it is highly recommended to double check these data.
